This Wound Closure Course is suitable for all registered staff working across a range of clinical environments where wound assessment and closure form part of routine practice. This includes Minor Injuries Units, Urgent Treatment Centres, Emergency Departments, and Pre‑Hospital Care settings.

The course introduces candidates to the essential knowledge and practical skills required to assess, manage, and close a variety of wounds. Delegates will gain hands‑on experience using wound closure strips, skin adhesive, staples, and suturing techniques, with teaching tailored to match individual scope of practice. The programme is designed to be inclusive, supporting all skill levels to develop confidence, competence, and clinical reasoning.

Eligibility

This course is suitable for the following clinical grades:

• Registered Healthcare Professionals
  (GMC, NMC, GPhC, HCPC or GDC registrants with a current PIN)
• Student Healthcare Professionals
  Enrolled on a recognised programme of study at minimum Year 2

Assessment

Assessment is continuous throughout the course and includes:

• Ongoing practical skills assessment
• A Single Best Answer (SBA) written paper

On successful completion, candidates will be awarded a certificate confirming they have been assessed in the topics covered and have demonstrated competence in wound closure techniques appropriate to their role.
