What is a Resus Council EPALS Course?
EPALS is an advanced course that trains healthcare professionals in the early recognition of the child in respiratory or circulatory failure and management of a cardiac arrest. EPALS provides the knowledge and skills needed to prevent further deterioration and help to save young lives.
The EPALS course is a collaboration between Resuscitation Council UK and the European Resuscitation Council. It is endorsed by the Royal College of Paediatric and Child Health (RCPCH) and approved by the Royal Colleges of Emergency Medicine (RCEM), and Anaesthetics (RCoA), as well as the Association of Paediatric Anaesthetists (APAGBI).
Who is this Course for?
If you are a healthcare professional who would be expected to apply the skills taught as part of your clinical duties, or to teach them on a regular basis, you are eligible to undertake this course. Eligible participants include doctors, nurses or paramedics working in direct contact with children.
All applicants must hold a current clinical appointment and professional healthcare qualification or be in training for a professional healthcare qualification.
All applicants must hold a professional healthcare qualification (NMC,HCPC,GMC registration) or be in training for a professional healthcare qualification. Medical & Healthcare students (of a NMC,HCPC or GMC registrant role) in their final year of training can be accepted as Candidates.
What's Covered?
- Conducting an initial assessment to recognise and manage the deteriorating child
- Revision of the paediatric advanced life support algorithm & Basic life support algorithm
- Infant and child CPR techniques including safe manual defibrillation skills
- Management of coking in infants and children
- Rehearsing effective leadership, teamwork and communication skills through simulations and a structured handover.
- Paediatric airway managment
- Respiratory failure in paediatrics
- Circuitry failure in paediatrics
- Post resuscitation care in paediatrics
- Cardiac Arrhythmia in paediatrics
- Paediatric Trauma
Successful Candidates receive a Resuscitation Council UK EPALS provider certificate, which is valid for four years.

Pre course manual and MCQ on the RCUK learning managment system prior to attending the course.
Attend our two day in person course which will take place at our Training Centre in Taunton, Somerset.
The Resuscitation Council use evidence-based guidelines and cutting-edge research to create our courses. Courses are then delivered by Resuscitation Council approved and qualified Instructors. This guarantees that the courses are uniform, and the content remains the same across all Course Centres delivering the accredited course.
