Resuscitation Council EPALS
The European Paediatric Advanced Life Support course trains healthcare professionals to recognise the child in respiratory or circulatory failure early and to manage cardiac arrest.
The course
What is EPALS?
EPALS is a collaboration between Resuscitation Council UK and the European Resuscitation Council. It is endorsed by the RCPCH and approved by the RCEM, RCoA and APAGBI, giving you the skills to prevent further deterioration and help save young lives.
Syllabus
What is covered
Simulation-based learning with a structured handover, plus paediatric airway, arrhythmia, trauma and post-resuscitation care.
- Recognising the deteriorating child
- Paediatric ALS and BLS algorithms
- Infant and child CPR with safe manual defibrillation
- Choking in infants and children
- Respiratory and circulatory failure

Structure
How the course runs
Complete the pre-course manual and MCQ on the RCUK learning management system, then attend two days in person at our training centre in Taunton, Somerset. Courses are delivered by RCUK approved instructors, so content is consistent across all Course Centres.
Eligibility
Who can attend
Doctors, nurses or paramedics working in direct contact with children, who hold a current clinical appointment and a professional healthcare qualification (NMC, HCPC or GMC), or are in training for one. Final-year students can be accepted.
