Expedition medicine is not event medical cover moved somewhere scenic. It is a different discipline, and the
difference is time.

At an event, a casualty is in a hospital within the hour. On an expedition, evacuation might mean a stretcher
carry to a road head, a boat, a charter flight and a border crossing. A problem that would be trivial at home, a dental abscess, a bad ankle, an infected wound, altitude sickness that nobody flagged early enough, becomes the reason the whole venture stops.

Apex Medical and Rescue plan and deliver medical support for expeditions, challenge events and remote ventures worldwide. We are not just a medic on a packing list. We work with you from the planning stage:
assessing the medical risk of the ground you are going to, screening your participants, building kit and drug packs that suit the terrain and the timescale, writing evacuation plans that actually work in that country, and then putting a properly qualified and registered medics in the field with your team

You will find all of our Rescue and Expedition Medics to be experienced outdoor mountain people. Who, when not exploring the wilds of the world in their own time, are embedded in Mountain Rescue saving those who get into trouble in the hard to reach parts of the UK.

When you book our team for your remote event or expedition, You are not just getting a Doctor, Paramedic or First Responder, You are getting an experienced and capable Mountain Rescuer who is more than capable at looking after themselves and others in extreme environments the world can throw at us.

•      Medical kit and drug pack design, built for the environment, the group size and the time to definitive care

•      Advice on carrying medicines internationally, including documentation where controlled drugs are involved

•      Immunisation, prophylaxis and travel health advice pathways for your Participants

•      Liaison with your insurer, assistance company and, where relevant, local medical facilities

•      Remote and wilderness first aid training for your leaders and staff

In the field

•      Experienced expedition medics, from remote-qualified paramedics and nurses through to expedition doctors, matched to the risk of your venture

•       Prolonged field care — managing a patient for hours or days, not minutes, with limited kit and no resupply

•      Altitude medicine, heat and cold injury, tropical and travel-related illness, trauma, dental and mental health support

•      Casualty evacuation planning and coordination on the ground, working with your leaders and local providers

•      Remote comms and telemedicine support back to a clinician in the UK where appropriate

How we work

1.      Tellus where you are going. Destination, route, dates, altitude, group size and age range, activities and how remote you will be at your furthest point.

2.      We support you in assessing the medical risk. Realistically, against that specific ground and season —including how long it would actually take to get a casualty to definitive care from each phase of the route.

3.      You get a plan and a proposal. Medical plan, evacuation plan, recommended level of cover, kit
and drug pack specification, and a clear price.

4.     We prepare with you. Participant
screening, leader training if you want it, insurer liaison and a full briefing before departure.

5.      We deploy with your team. Integrated with your leadership, working to your plan, and self-sufficient in the field.

6.      You get the paperwork afterwards. Medical report, incident documentation and a debrief that makes the next expedition safer.
