Who it's for

Working near water

For staff whose work takes them close to rivers, canals, reservoirs, docks or the coast, and the people who supervise them. WAS is the workplace equivalent of Water and Flood Awareness, without the rescue skills.

Syllabus

What's covered

Practical knowledge to plan work safely and respond correctly if something goes wrong.

Health and safety law, safe systems of work and risk assessment
Water hazards, including cold water, mud, ice and coastal risks
Personal protective equipment for working near water
Pre-planning for emergencies
What to do after accidental immersion, and calling the emergency services
Medical, decontamination and biosecurity considerations

No. WAS is delivered in a classroom and does not involve entering the water.

Where is it delivered?

At our Taunton training centre or at your workplace.

Are there any entry requirements?

No. There are no prerequisites for WAS.
